So.. when I was watching some of the opening ceremony for the olympics and Nikki Yanofsky sang the national anthem, she did not sing it very traditionally and it was an arranged version that was quite different that how it is usually sung. On youtube there are a multitude of comments saying that O Canada should be sung so that everyone can sing along and that it should not be arranged. What do you guys think? You should watch the video on youtube and read the comments. they are actually quite entertaining. look up "Nikki Yanofsky O Canada" |
When i heard everyone saying that the singer turned it into too much of a song, I was expecting something totally different from what our familiar anthem is. But I watched and i can see what they mean but the general melody and lyrics dont change so im thinking maybe people just like the tradition? But i didnt really have a problem with it. Seems like no one sings along these days anyway.
